I never wanted to see the movie Monsters, Inc. The movie itself grossed over a half billion dollars worldwide. Then I had the chance to review it on DVD for its November 10, 2009 release. Did I ever regret my decision. I made a mistake. ?I should have back then. ?Don’t make the same one. Meanwhile, I’ll tell you a little about the ploy so you will be prepared when the door between Monstropolis and us opens.

Screaming children produces power for the Monstropolis power utility; therefore, it the job of monsters is to frighten humans. They enter into the human world by night to terrorize and scare. Monsters must proceed carefully and with caution though for children are toxic. Physical contact with them is considered deadly. When the toddler Boo (Mary Gibbs) follows him to Metropolis, the hi jinx begin.

James P. Sulley Sullivan (John Goodman) is top monster. His partner, best friend, and sidekick is Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal). His rival Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi) wants to replace him and has been up to bad things. Scully discovers this and reports it to his boss not aware that CEO Henry J. Waterhouse (James Coburn) is behind everything.

Sulley is banished to Nepal, somewhere in the cold, snowy Himalayas. He escapes to save the day. Sulley manages to get Boo back home safely. The Monsters discover that laughter works much better than fear so they change the way they act with humans. Everyone is happy.

The running time for this animated film is 91 minutes. Its all exclusive bonus features two Academy winning shorts, For the Birds, and Mike’s New Car. Plus the sound track includes the Academy Award winner “If I Didn’t Have You”.

  1. I have never been interested in getting a blu ray player until now. Monsters Inc is one of my very favorite movies of all times. Yes, I am a 37 yr old geek. But hearing this coming out on blu ray, I am starting to investigate Blue ray even more, and now it is on my Christmas list, along with this movie. Thanks for the review.
