Just like the song says, “Taking pictures is making memories, catching little pieces of times.” When I popped Big Hero 6 into the DVD player today, I could not help but think back to seeing it first run in the theater last November with Princess. How she loved Baymax and couldn’t get enough of that movie! Now just three months later, it has been released to DVD in a Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD Collector’s Edition.
A Bit about Big Hero 6 History:
Big Hero 6 was a total box office success. No wonder it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Inspired by an obscure Marvel comic, audiences can only hope there is more to come in this franchise.
Brief Summary of Plot:
Set in futuristic San Fransokyo, big brother Tadashi worries about his genius 14 year old brother Hiro Hamada. Tadaski convinces Hiro to go to college. Hero’s microbes project impresses everyone. Then a fire breaks out killing Tadaki and Professor Callaghan.
Hiro in deep mourning refuses the comfort of Tadashi”s friends compulsively neat Wasabi, energy hyped Go Go Tamago, science virtuoso Honey Lemon, and eccentric Fred. Then he finds comfort in Tadashi’s work on Baymax, a personal care robot but to help those in need.
When Hiro accidentally activates Baymax, he comes up against a masked man has stolen his bots. After upgrading Baymax with a battle chip, Hiro and Tadashi’s friends work together as a superhero team to investigate Krei Tech, its teleportation unstable portal, and its testing which caused test pilot Abigail Callaghan to vanish….
Don’t you hate people who spoil the story by divulging everything? So, I’ll leave it to you to find out the ending of Big Hero 6 and how things work out….

My Opinion Only:
The themes of this story–genius, tragedy, death, loneliness-ones everybody faces at one time or another, make for solid storytelling. Its characters are ones audiences of all ages can care about. Each superhero human is a real person first first and foremost with strengths and weaknesses. Its robot Big Hero 6 is powerful yet not frightening or intimidating. I call this movie entertaining, touching, clever, colorful, sweet, fast-paced fun.
