One Critic’s Opinion:
What a classic! Spectacular grand design, medieval imagery, hand drawn animation, and Tchaikovsky music set against french writer Perrault’s fairy tale with liberties, makes it the best princess story ever. In so many different ways Sleeping Beauty charms. Audiences appreciate its enchanting love story, its human not heroic characters, and its three fairy godmother comedy set against dark, forbidding, spectacular dragon Malificent as much if not more than they did when it debuted 75 years ago.

Personal Endorsement (X 2): No wonder my own Princess grandchild says Sleeping Beauty is her favorite. Last visit, I watched her as she slept our hotel. On awakening she recounted her dreams of Briar Rose and the castle. She truly enjoyed meeting Sleeping Beauty so I know she will love this DVD and the memories it brings back.

Brief Synopsis:
After fairies Flora and Fauna bless their godchild Aurora, evil Malificent uninvited to the baby’s christening, curses her and casts a spell promising at sixteen she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. Fairy Merryweather then uses her blessing to weakens it. Instead aurora will fall into a deathlike sleep to be awakened only by love’s first kiss. To ensure Aurora’s safety, all spinning wheels are burned and she is secretly hidden away in a woodcutter’s cottage in the forest.

Time passes. With her heritage not known even to her, passing Prince Phillip sees her and falls in love thinking she is a peasant girl. Aurora returns home to the castle. Disguised Malificent tricks her into pricking her finger. After she falls asleep, her godmothers put a spell on the kingdom until the curse is broken. Prince Phillip armed with the sword of truth and Shield of Virtue battles Malicifent’s dragon form, wins, and awakens the Princess with love’s first kiss.
