Old Key West Resort, My Favorite DVC Home at WDW
No doubt about it, I like all the comforts of home–AC, deck, pool, comfy bed, and refrigerator stocked with snacks and goodies so much so that I demand the same amenities when I travel.
“Welcome Home,” the gate man greets me.
“Welcome Home,” Peggy at the front desk repeats.
Yes, I am home here in Old Key West?be it in a studio, a one-bedroom, a two-bedroom or a grand villa, in all seasons summer, fall, winter, spring.
In last decade plus, I have enjoyed every one of my luxury stays at the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian, the Animal Kingdom, the Boardwalk, but home is where the heart is and, to me, Old Key West is the best. Quite simply I prefer its two and three story pastel bungalows blanketed by flowers and fauna to the Wirld’s other larger than life hotel-feel properties.
OKW (opened in 1991) may be Disney?s oldest vacation club, but its exceptionally spacious, well-equipped, well-maintained accommodations with covered porches and parking outside the door equal or excel other DCV properties . The Magic Express coupled with Disney?s extensive land and water transportation system make everywhere and anywhere in the World quickly and easily accessible.
This Downtown Disney resort has much to offer. It is homey, relaxing, quiet. Its staff is friendly, helpful, polite. ?Its housekeeping is clean, friendly, accommodating. Relax and enjoy. Conch Flats Gurgling Suitcase, Goods to Go, and Olivia?s Restaurant, evening campfire, movie under the stars, fireworks in the sky, merchandise delivery and pickup, in-room pizza delivery mean entertainment and convenience.
Lodging perks like wireless internet, wall safes, and laundry facilities are standard. ?This place is more than where visitors only can eat and sleep. What’s your pleasure? ?Playgrounds, pools, hot tub, sauna, fitness center, game room arcade, community recreation hall, golf course, bikes, and shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts abound. ? The only thing missing is boat rentals.
Old Key West (designated in 2007 by the Florida Green Lodging Program) is environmentally responsible. ?Set among swaying palms, tropical plants, flowering bushes, its protected wildlife ducks, egrets, turtles, otters, and vultures thrive within its?156 acres grounds.
Its fishing, jogging, evening campfires, movies under the stars, secluded woodlands, nature trails, and Trumbo Canal/Sassagoula River water byway to Downtown Disney showcase nature at its best.
Hustle and bustle is nice for a while; however, at day?s end Old Key West is the #1 choice for a relaxed holiday. ? With amazing charm and privacy, who wants hectic crowds?
All Disney locations have perks. Balloon animals and towel origami rank here. Still it is the smiles and help of its manager Rodney and his team make OKW stand above and apart. These fine men and women really do keep the magic going.
Do you have a favorite place to stay when you travel? What makes it your favorite?
I’ve never been to a DVC property before–they look great for sure. I’ve only been to resorts on the property-thanks for sharing
They also rent these properties to non-members.
We are planning a trip to Disney this fall and I have been learning all the best things I can
Hubby and I decided when our now grown kids were little that staying on property was worth any cost difference–the convenience, avoiding the traffic in, and the extra hours were sweeet benefits.
This is beautiful! I love the flowers and wildlife!
The blanket of gardenias outside out studio warms me inside.
I don’t have a favorite place to stay because I don’t travel much at all. The last time I traveled for fun was about 10 yrs ago. This looks like it would be a wonderful place to stay. Thanks for sharing.
Since I was a toddler, my favorite place was amusement parks–Coney Island, Palisades Park, Wildwood, Seaside so, of coourse, I love this place.
I had never heard of this location before. It is so pretty and it looks like there is plenty for the whole family to do.
As a vacation club rather than hotel, this place doesn’t get much advertisement.
