Stop & Shop / Produce for Kids Get Healthy, Give Hope Campaign
We are what we eat, and fast food/processed food/sweetened beverages/bad carb diets lack nutritionally. No doubt about, obesity is on the rise. America’s sedentary life style makes its men, women, and children vulnerable to this AMA recognized disease which causes illnesses like diabetes, heart disease and cancer. It hurts the quality of life; it shortens life.
I recently learned about the Get Healthy, Give Hope Campaign currently in progress through August 10, 2012, at my local Stop & Shop and at many other supermarkets across the U. S.A. including Ahold?s Giant and Martin?s Food Stores, Giant-Landover and Stop & Shop divisions; Associated Wholesale Grocers? Major Savings, Advantage, Independent, Country Mart, Homeland and United divisions; Meijer Stores; Price Chopper and Publix Super Markets.
Stores and partners like Sprout, Lazy Town and the PBH Foundation want to educate parents and children about nutrition, choices, and health. Thirty fruit and vegetable growers (DOLE Salads, SUNSET Tomatoes on the Vine, NatureSweet Glorys Perfect Ingredient Tomatoes, Naturipe Blueberries, Shuman Produce ? RealSweet Vidalia Onions, State Garden ? Nature?s Promise Organic Packaged Salads, Westmoreland Sales ? TopLine Seedless Cucumbers) support this initiative. So why not buy fresh?
Since this campaign was created in 2002, fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers have a $4.2 million + consumption based donation to help kids’ non-profit organizations. This week instead of stocking my shopping card with boxes and cans, I decided to eat smart and buy fresh–less calories, carbs, salt, and fat; more natural, flavor, taste, and nutrition.
Don’t ever say to your children, “Don’t do as I do; do as I say.” Parents are their kids’ teachers and kids learn from what they see dad and mom do. Make www.produceforkids.com a resource for easy, health family meals.
