The Shout Kids DVD Littlest Pet Shop Petacular Escapades has this grandma’s seal of approval. The plots of each of its five short 22 minute episodes, Blythe’s Crush, Dumb Dumbewaiter, Lights, Cameras, Mongoose, What Did You Say?, and Terriers and Tiaras teach positive lessons and values today’s kids need to hear.

It’s fun to watch unique pets like Zoe, skunk Pepper, hedgehog Russell, panda Penny, gecko Vinnie, monkey Minka, and typical kid Blythe in true to life situations. Things like wanting to impress a boy, being trapped and rescued, meeting someone important, not being able to understand, and bad behavior do happen. Petacular Escapades’ quirky personalities and slapstick humor together work with its 6-11 audience. Describe it as animated, age appropriate with nothing inappropriate fun with an appeal far beyond girly viewers. It is a commentary on today’s world, today’s behavior, even today’s reality or not shows. Its original music and special feature Sing-Along add to its entertaining yet not preaching tone.

Released by Shout Kids October 1, 2013, Littlest Pet Shop Petacular Escapades lists at $14.97. It is available in retailers nationally as well as online.
