Princess loves to dress up from head to foot. She still wants to wear the Twinkle Toe light-up sneakers I got her last year. How they glitter and sparkle just like her! So when I was invited to review Twinkle Toes: The Movie on DVD I figuratively danced for joy. I think under 13 set girls literally will do the same thing.

Twinkle Toes: The Movie is an full-length animated educational feature film that actually entertains. Its original music and songs are age appropriate and fit story context. I like the message and the themes of Get the Future Started, Let Me Fly High, To the Beat, Shining Star, Just Wanna Have Some Fun, Sporty Sporty, Shine, Beautiful, We Got the Beat. These are lyrics (no censoring required) set in a contemporary score that tweens can understand.

Grace Hastings’s stage fright is her secret fear. She keeps her dancing talent hidden. She is scared to show it off before an audience. Only her stuffed rabbit friend Walter gets to see her fancy footwork. Then her instructor discovers her and the show is on. Grace finds courage, expresses herself, celebrates her own individuality, and makes friends–all good things every maturing child needs to learn in life.

Having watched Twinkle Toes: The Movie, I am passing it on to grandbaby. She is always reminding me that she is a big girl. I know she will delight in Grace, a fashionista heroine. I can see her foot loose on the living room floor. She sparkles already. Last time we spoke, she asked me to buy her new boots. Bet she changes her mind and asks instead for another pair of Sketchers.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is releasing Twinkle Toes: The Movie (Not Rated) on DVD July 31, 2012. It lists for $19.98 and has a 71 minute running time. Movies like this are good ways for families create life lessons as they share and enjoy their time together.
