HOLIDAY GIFT IDEA – Mega Bloks Blok Squad Construction Mission

Megablox Construction Mission review

Megablox Construction Mission review

Christmas and memories of long ago, sharing them makes them alive again.

I remember visiting my cousins when I was about ten. Their real tree set in front of the big bow was magnificent as was the falling city snow. Beneath the tree were tracks of trains, a tiny village, miniature figures, and something I had never before seen – interlocking plastic bricks in red and white. I used them to build a house. How well they played!

I believe in toys that build on motor skills, imagination, and creativity. That is what I appreciate about Mega Bloks. It’s a toy that can expand and grow along with the child or the inner child within us adults.

Last night hubby found Mega Bloks Blok Squad Construction Mission on the kitchen table. Since I was reviewing it, naturally I had to check out the pieces. 218 in number daunted me, but then I am somewhat older than 5+. It is a buildable two vehicle 4 x4 4 truck and front-loader playset. With well made, sturdy pieces able to be washed and sanitized, it truly is a classic toy to be invented and reinvented then passed on.

My only reservation about this item is its suggested age 5+. Although the instructions included ample illustration, children that young really don’t read yet. Furthermore, many pieces are extremely tiny and little hands have not yet developed some fine motor skills needed to successfully put all the pieces together. Finally, early elementary youngsters have a limited span of interest so since these particular Mega Bloks take time to complete, I would think a better suggested age might be 8-10+.

Construction Mission came together fantastically. Its contours and shapes rival those of die molds. I know at least one kid who is going to enjoy playing trucks and loading/unloading things with it and want the other companion sets that are available. At $9.99, buyers can’t go wrong. Check the Mega Blok site on line for availability and more information.
