Uncle Ben?s Whole Grain White Rice – With Giveaway

I know many modern mothers who complain their children aren’t eating healthy and well-balanced foods. Well, shame on those moms. They are the parents; they are not supposed to be friends. (That comes later when the children grow into adults.) I never force fed any of my four; however, I admit, I wrapped any unfinished plate and put it into the refrigerator, had my child (ren) remain with the family at the table until everyone finished, obviously no dessert for anyone not hungry enough to finish the plate. Eventually hunger set in and out came the plate until it was done pure and simple. I suppose some modern day thinkers would chastise me for child abuse.

When I was growing up, ours was a strictly meat and potatoes house. I did not even know that rice existed until I found it served to me at a Chinese restaurant. I recently received Uncle Ben’s Whole Grain White Rice. It tastes like white rice but is more; it’s whole grain. Other long grain varieties include broccoli cheddar, taco, sweet tomato, and creamy chicken. Something for every main entree; something for every taste. This is a good alternative to pasta and potatoes. It is quick and easy to prepare – it only takes 10 minutes. Plus it is packed with whole grains – almost a full day’s worth in one serving.

Then when dinner is over if there is any plain rice left, instead of leaving with other leftovers, I stir up some rice pudding using an old recipe of my mother’s and put it in the oven. What a wholesome sweet dessert it makes plain or topped! Hubby enjoys the non-baked version more, but I just haven’t found a simple recipe suitable for my cooking. I found recipes and more at http://www.unclebens.com/. I plan to try a few of them. Perhaps I’ll start with the banana one….

  9. I think I’d like the Broccoli and Cheese… but then I eat broccoli almost everyday – one of those good for you foods that I can eat with my allergies. AND I often mix vegetables into my rice and made all sorts of “rice bowls” for dinner. Last night I even mixed in leftover chicken & vegetables and it tasted great.
