ThermaCELL Patio Lantern Review

Deck, gazebo top, lights and fan working, TV and speakers up…ready to go for outdoor fun from noon until night…as long as the insects don’t interfere with the Fourth of July celebration. Time to test a ThermaCELL Patio Lantern. It’s advertisement, “Keeps the bugs away, so you can enjoy the outdoors,” promises a lot, but will it deliver the real thing?

As I set up the deck furniture and got the grill ready, I hang the small, cordless Mission style lantern. Its decorative look fit well with the redwood and wrought iron. Over the years I’ve tried citronella and zappers to keep away the mosquitoes. Here near the water they are abundant and their bites are nasty.

I appreciate the fact that the unit works with no open flame–a safety feature plus when small kids are running around. Silent and odor-free, good. U. S. Army testing marks as 98% effective, better. EPA approved, best.

As dusk comes, hubby puts on the ThermaCELL Lantern and leaves it on until the last guest departs and I finish my outside cleanup duty. It does the job as promised for my 225 sq. ft. deck. How do I know? I shut off the lights out back and go on the front porch for some hellos/goodbyes for guests still going and coming. I am attacked by some @#%&* flying insect. I hate bugs! So I say goodnight.
