I had company last night, my two favorite grandsons. That is a safe comment incidentally because to date I only have two grandsons. Since Mom and Dad were coming to pick them up, I decided to treat give them dinner–roast beef, pan baked potatoes, gravy, broccoli, and corn. Wanting to keep them amused, busy, and out of my kitchen, I popped in a DVD Curious George 2, Follow That Monkey.

Beloved and inquisitive George becomes a monkey on the run to help his friend Kayla (Jeff McNeal), a baby elephant in a magic circus show. He takes her on a cross-country adventure to reunite her with her elephant family in California. Things get complicated when he and Ted, the Man with the Yellow Hat (Jeff Bennett) get accused of elephant napping. Everything works out.

My teen grandson cracked a smile or two; my younger one laughed through most of the 81 minutes running time. I guess they liked it. I know I did. The “California Sun” sound tract by Brian Wilson even got the little one wiggling. The traditional animation was eye-pleasing, and the voices roles appealing. Plaudits to Tim Curry, Jamie Kennedy, Matt Lauer, and Jerry Lewis for helping with the comic moments.

After dinner, I appreciated this video again. While bonus features including two never-before-seen shows from the new season and more kept them from being underfoot, I got to relax with their parents. One of the best evenings in a long, long time all the way around.

Here’s some more information on the movie.
