Changes In Education

The original three R’s of reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic, have been taught in schools less and less. Gone is rote memorization of facts and tables. Gone is the Palmer Method of repeated dark circles and diagonal lines. Books are opened reluctantly at best. Students simply do not want to put forth effort. Practice makes perfect. Too bad so many take the easy way out because they want to have fun.

  1. Way back when I used to teach first grade, I taught handwriting, and my students could print nicely. But when our son was in first grade, he brought home his handwriting workbook at the end of the school year almost completely unused, and he did not have good handwriting. I had to teach him at home.
