My Way

I am a pretty open person. I don’t deliberately start things shit-raking (sorry if that is offensive). I try to be fair-minded and consider all options. I am strong in both my likes and dislikes. I stand my mind and rarely cave in to opposition. I can say, “Sorry. I was wrong,” when I am. I do believe in rules, but I will play by yours until they bite. I’ll demand you play those same rules too.

I am no a rug to be walked over. Because I am a woman, it doesn’t mean that I should walk six steps behind. Paul Anka’s song could well be my own story:

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, Ill say it clear,
Ill state my case, of which Im certain.

Ive lived a life thats full.
Ive traveled each and evry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, Im sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried.
Ive had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say – not in a shy way,
No, oh no not me,
I did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows –
And did it my way!

I was chided today for putting too much information in blogs on my site. I don’t think I put too much. I know I left out a great deal but that is my own business. For years I have been scolding people whose blogs I read that there is a whole world out there that reads them as well. The pictures and stories show a lot about someone.

For example, a man unbeknown to anyone in the family bragged about his life of crime, drugs, alcohol, and women. Then there was the woman who put her whole life and indiscretions with graphic pictures on My Space and never stopped to think she was publishing to the whole world. The story is the person’s tell…good and/or bad.

My father once advised me, “Put nothing into writing that you would not want on the front page of a newspaper.” Good advice no matter what paper one reads–be it the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, or Newark Star Ledger. Someone, somewhere, somehow can get a hold of those words and use them. Be discreet; don’t let it all hang out.

Each of us must like himself first at foremost. If we can’t do that then why should others? I don’t think I put too much. I know I left out a great deal but that is my own business.

  1. Write what ever you want, it is your blog. Some people are just mean and never have anything nice to say. I have ran across a lot of those type of people. Just ignore them.

  2. Its your blog! You can write what you want! I think that person is jealous, and they don’t have to read it if they don’t like it! I enjoy your blog and so does alot of people! Keep on writing!

  3. Kathryn,

    What a lovely comment.  O!  That it all were true.  I wish the feet were really well balanced literally.  A TLK transplant makes me walk like a Weeble.  My week will be great only IF I can find some jeans that fit!  My loss of weight recently made fitting even harder.  Well, that is the price….

    Pat.
