HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE – Oscar’s Originals

oscars originals horn dog

An original oil painting of New Orleans St. Louis Cathedral hangs in my entrance hall. It was the one souvenir I insisted I have as a memory of my times in New Orleans. I love the place so rich in artists and musicians.

My memories are full of pastries on Royal Street, drinks on Bourbon Street, dinner at the Courtyard of the Three Sisters, muffalatas on Market Street, coffee at the Cafe Du monde, collectibles from the French Market. About the only thing I regret is that I haven’t experienced its Mardi Gras.

Recently I received two original handmade pins designed and signed by Oscar of New Orleans. Oscar’s jewelry is unique, colorful, and symbolic – just like the place and its way of living easy (in the Big Easy). His work (cool crawfish, cats, dinosaurs, dogs, lots more….mardi gras themes too) is truly wearable art, handcut from metallic resins then melted together. Oscar also makes earrings. Oscar’s Originals creations are all priced under $20.00.

Go online to to see them if you can’t get to the French Market where they are on sale.

More about Oscar’s Originals

Oscar?s pins and earrings feature vibrant colors and themes unique to New Orleans. His saxophone-playing crawfish, Mardi Gras masks and dancing alligators add panache to every outfit. They are made of light-weight plastic, so even the big, bold earrings are comfortable to wear.

Oscar has been involved with the arts since he was a child growing up in Kansas City, Mo. A musician, an actor and a singer as well as a fine artist, Oscar feels that New Orleans is the place he can most express himself artistically. In addition to designing fabulous jewelry, Oscar?s goal is to establish a program to support young artists at risk in the New Orleans community. He also donates $5 of the price of each Save the Alligator Bayou pin to a special fund set up to preserve the bayou.

ONE winner will receive an Oscar’s Originals piece of their own.
