Book Review And Giveaway – Encyclopedia Of Haunted Places, Ghostly Locales From Around The World by Jeff Belanger
Encyclopedia of Haunted Places, Ghostly Locales from Around the World by Jeff Belanger
With shades of Halloween approaching, I decided it was just the right time to delve into the paranormal. Everybody has heard and almost believes at least one legend he has heard. After all, ghosts make for powerful stories based on fact then seeped in tradition of the unexplained.
Jeff Belanger has compiled and edited some of the best of ghostly locales around the world. Far away Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Oceania, Asia, Africa, Europe has its hauntings. Closer by, the U S. A. has its folklore. I skimmed all the chapters before going back to read and reread the tales I was drawn to–of places I had seen.
Spirits love spirits is a great line. It drew me to Jean Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar (Bourbon Street, New Orleans) rich in history with buccaneers, treasure, and curses. It hooked me on Chicago’s John Hancock Building, birthplace of satanic leader Anton Szandor LaVey, Lorraine Kowalski’s fall, and Cap Streeter’s curse. It enticed with the Black Dahalia Murder by the LA Biltmore. It dangled the phantom carriage sitings not far from Houdini’s burnt-out mansion in Laurel Canyon.
Washington. D. C.?s White House spirits include Redcoats, Abraham Lincoln and his son William Wallace, and Dolly Madison. St. Augustine?s Castillo de San Marcos has its native American Seminoles as well as murdered lovers Captain Manuel Abela and Delores Marti. Louisville has its riverboat captain Ben Winters on the Belle of Louisville. The RMS Queen Mary off Long Beach has its 600 ghosts. The Hotel Del Coronado has Kate Morgan, the woman who never checked out. The USS Arizona has its guilt-ridden officer who left his station moments before the day of infamy.
There is a house that sits along the river in a nearby time. Years ago Hollywood took it over as a movie set. The story about a family murdered in Amityville was grizzly. The family that fled it 28 days after moving in a year later is ominous and threatening. What is stranger still is now three decades later how it is told that the once movie set is plagued by something huge and black. Belanger has included six locations in New Jersey. I choose to count seven.
I am no ghost buster, but I am a curious woman who would like to check out the scene and any possible rational explanations. Perhaps I should wear my crucifix and bring cloves of garlic…. Why not learn a little of what Hans Hoilzer terms “the other side of life”?

I believe in ghosts~as I remember years ago a real good friend of mine died unexpectedly and sudden. And~I was having a really hard time dealing with the death. One night I was sound to sleep and woke up because I felt someone hug me and tell me that it was going to be ok and then I saw a shadow..Not sure if it was my friend but I found some peace after that night.
Thanks so much for this Super Giveaway!!
