Life

I was looking around for something to write about when I came upon this poem written by me in the 70’s. It was written when hubby of 31+ was still courting me. When I reread it I thought first about the heartache of love which inspired the words. Then I realized [...]

A Simple Plea, a poem

Prisoners of war; missing in action–
Our almost forgotten heroes
Weary, wanting to be free back home;
Mothers’ and fathers’ sacrificed ones–
Inmates caged by mind or body,
Abandoned to enemies in foreign lands.

These veterans are the men and women who fought for you and me.
They are our country’s tragedy, our government’s shame.
Remember America’s victims.  Strive for their return.

For the POW-MIA’s, a prayer

FOR THE POW-MIA’S
O Lord of all people,
Who loves all people—Muslim, Christian, and Jew–
Protect us from the hatred of those who want to destroy us and You.
There are different kinds of prisoners.
Our POW’s were one kind; the people living in freedomless lands another.
There are different kinds of soldiers missing in action, military and civilian.
They die because [...]

Beau, a poem

Beautiful black baby Beau
Eyes, ever eternity’s enigma
Always affectionate and amorous
Usually underfoot, nursing, kneeding

Prayer for a Departed Hero

This hero has not left us.  He is with us watching over us.  He remains alive in America’s heart and heritage.  His patriotic family proudly remembers him.  He served “For God and Country” in war and peace.  He was our comrade, our friend, our leader.  We pray to God that he along with all our soldiers [...]

Remember When, a poem

Baby boy,
Little one,
Remember when
you and  your brother played tricks on Grandma?
I thought I knew you…
But I knew everything then.
I don’t now.
You’ve become a man,
And your mommy does know that’s for the best.
Pain and pride
Side by side.
So close yet so far.
Bright shining star.
At last I understand  how well you know me.
Just words–I love you.
To one, truth; [...]

These Are The Signs of Holiday Times, a poem

Heaven sings
Angel wings
People’s prayer
Presents everywhere
Yon snow fresh

Nativity creche
Epiphany star
Wise men from afar
Yuletide ho-ho
Elves on the go
Almost the day
Reindeer sleigh

Good, bright
Joy, light
God above
All love
These are the signs of holiday times.
May they always live in our hearts.
May we never forget their meaning.

Our family extends
To family and friends
Our best wishes and hopes for peace
For not only this Christmas season
But [...]
