Over the holidays hubby and I traveled out of state to see middle son. The trip was great BUT with incident. Bad weather, high winds, and an incoming snow storm made things topsy-turvy. First the gas went out. Next was the cable. About then I advised ET to find some candles. Simple fact is remote areas often do not get the priority service that densely populated ones do.
Winter alert. Resolve for the new year to prepare for the unexpected. Emergencies happen. Resolve to Be Ready in 2012. Begin by going to Ready New York’s online tool, the Readiness Challenge. Take yourself through real-life emergencies, complete the scenarios, then create with the help of Ready New York resources an emergency plan of your own.
New Yorkers – If snowstorms are predicted, you can go here to find out the order in which the city will plow the streets to help you prepare. Also, make use of the My Meeting Place Facebook app to help you make your emergency plans.
I just sent out an emergency preparedness Go-Kit (bag, pocket radio, flashlight, first-aid kit, batteries, worker’s gloves, light sticks, emergency blanket, tissues, and whistle) to ET. He called to thank me then asked me why he needed it since he didn’t live in NYC. Quick response: Be prepared. It’s winter. Not only New York businesses and New York families have to deal with emergencies. Plan.
With that said, I will be giving away the same emergency preparedness kit I gave my son (value $50) to one lucky reader. Good luck.

That was a great site! Here in Florida – once summertime comes – we have to constantly be prepared during hurricane season. So before that time comes, I stock up on water, canned foods, propane, batteries, etc for if we’re hit.

WE have lots of extra supplies, food, water, hygiene items, first aid, batteries, flashlights, etc. The one I hadn’t thought of is a family meeting place, if you’re not home at the same time or at least a common contact number.
