Recently I reviewed the book Burton the Kind Scarecrow. The plot is simple, a tale of life on Farmer Green’s, crops, and the changing of seasons full circle. The story builds relationships and teaches life lessons. Kindness, commitment, generosity, and gratitude are values the world needs more of. Goodness does have its own rewards as Burton getting a new friend Ribbon proves.
I hope Boeholt continues the series of Friendship Tales from the Farm. Including a resource guide, history of scarecrows, reader and listener tips and connecting points, ideas for activities, learning more online, glossary, and information about the author, the illustrator, and the publisher extends the story and gives it relevance to today’s world. The illustrations are excellent, bright, colorful, realistic drawings full of detail. I could actually see Burton’s changing emotions with each time passage.
Suggestion to parents and educators: Because mastery of every academic subject depends on reading, the child who enjoys reading will read more and do better in school. How can you get your kids to read? Surround the child in his/her formative years with books, read to him/her, let him/her see you read, and allow him/her to select his/her
own reading materials. Visit the library regularly. Buy books regularly. There is more to life than television, cell phones, electronic games, and computers even when parentally supervised and appropriate.

My favorite season is fall. The leaves are changing colors and falling. Perfect for pictures! The weather is perfect not too hot not really too cold (least on most nights lol). On the chiller nights we drink hot coco and sit by the fire and read one book a night about the fall time or maybe a favorite one. This would be a great book to add to our family collection. Plus my kids are just now getting old enough to read books to each other. I love hearing them sound out the words
