Shutterfly Giveaway

Most of my life people advised me to write a book. Maybe someday I will, but for now I would rather take pictures. One way to spot me in a crowd – just look for the woman with a camera in her hand snapping away in search of the perfect picture. Out of every 100, perhaps I am satisfied with one. It’s art in the eye of the beholder.

How many times has lighting and the weather worked against you? How many times has someone walked straight through your line of sight? How many times is your location obstructed? How many times has your camera gone dead. Fact is that many pictures don’t pan out. Don’t fixate on it. Everyone loses some once in a lifetime photo ops. Just keep snapping those pictures. Even professionals sort and crop to showcase their best.

Take it from me, pictures accumulate over the course of a lifetime. Only so many of them can go in frames on walls and furnishings. Even if you rotate, what do you do with what is left? They deserve to be out of the vault. Here is my suggestion. Share them.

Over the years I have done jewelry, ornaments, stamps, cards, albums, books and more. Memories last as long as there is someone to remember. So why not chose photography as the perfect vehicle to make that happen? For the time of your life, capture the moments, the milestones.

Last fall on POW/MIA Recognition Day, the New Jersey Sons of the American Legion held a watchfire to show that it had not forgotten its prisoners of war and missing in action. The families and loved ones left behind truly deserve a full accounting. Its ceremonial fire, songs, poems, prayers, reading of names, POW/MIA Flag Up Close, flag retirements, and 9-11′s Patriot Flag became the inspiration for a book.

I chose to use Shutterfly’s Storytelling Destination and some suggestions from its own Heather Madden. The process was simple and quick.

I know that the finished bound 8″ X 8″ volume will be treasured by its recipient, my hubby. I am proud of him and his Legion Family volunteer work on behalf of veterans and children through the years. I hope my storytelling destination succeeds in showing everyone that. Wish I could show you the finished album right now but it is still on route with guaranteed delivery on time. Wish I could say the same for me.

Shutterfly is also on Facebook and Twitter.

In time for the season, I am sponsoring a Shutterfly giveaway so you too can share your own story with pictures.
