My greeting card of choice always is Hallmark. To me it means, “When you care enough to send the very best.” So when I was invited to blog about Hallmark’s Get Carded Challenge, I agreed without any hesitation. I decided to do this as a way to stop and smell the roses; to reach out one more time to the people in my heart who have touched my life indelibly in so many ways. It is never too late to reconnect.
I love receiving cards. Ironically, I rarely send them. That is the reason why when Hallmark asked me to participate in the Get Carded Challenge, I saw for myself the wisdom of changing my ways.
Here’s a description of the Hallmark Get Carded Challenge.
Hallmark is launching a Get Carded Challenge as part of its new Life is a Special Occasion campaign, which encourages all of us to push the “pause” button on the blur of daily life and think about the beauty of unplanned, perfectly imperfect moments we share with those who mean the most to us. No matter how much we rely upon email, IMs and tweets to keep in touch with our friends and family, few things compare with the feeling of receiving a handwritten note in the mail. Knowing this person took the time to send something “just because” or in recognition of a milestone lets us know we are top of mind and reminds us how much we truly mean to them. The Get Carded Challenge is a fun challenge designed to help you connect and re-connect with the special people in your lives “just because.” It’s Hallmark’s hope that, by taking the time to reach out to someone special through the Challenge, it will help reinforce the emotional connection you share.
The Get Carded Challenge is a chance to touch the people who have made our lives meaningful. The hectic pace of the word around us, our jobs, our responsibilities too often makes us put off what we should do today until tomorrow. Too often tomorrow comes too late or not at all. This should not happen. Life is a special occasion.
Hallmark sent me a pack of 14 greeting cards. My job was to pick one each day for seven days, personalize it, then send it on and wait. I was free to send the extras whenever I wish and I did so once I completed the challenge. I await the responses.
In a month or so, I’ll followup with what happened when my priest, six family members, and seven old friends – the people in my life who have given so much yet asked so little – got their U. S., postal mail.
True friendship is not limited by either time or space – so remember, it is never too late to reconnect. For more information about Hallmark’s Life is a Special Occasion campaign, please visit http://www.hallmark.com/life.

Not counting Christmas, it would be a sympathy card … and the fewer of those the better. I can’t remember the last time I just sent a card. With todays unlimited phone call packages, I tend to call to find out how my family or friends are doing. This is an interesting challenge. I expect I might get some calls back wondering if I’m ok — what’s wrong that I sent a card.
