Another Buddy adventure, The Search for Santa Paws, is being released by the Disney Studios in time for Thanksgiving. This direct to DVD release is an original film and prequel to Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws.

Feeling down, Santa receives a special puppy to cheer him up. This puppy Paws, who becomes Santa’s best friend, is brought to life by a magic crystal. Santa travels to New York City to save Christmas. problems keep happening as he is hit by a car, mugged, is a robbery victim, loses his memory, and his dog gets lost.

Simultaneously, the Huckles learn they must remain in the toyshop they have inherited for the season and make it profit. James is practical and decides to make the best of things even though he wants to move on. His wife Kate is pleased as they couple are childless and she loves children and the opportunity to make them happy.

Meanwhile, orphaned Quinn (Kaitlyn Maher) is placed in a home with Mrs. Stout, a hateful, unpleasant female Scrooge. This villain frightens and abuses the children in her care. All pleasure and fun is forbidden to them. Luckily Quinn finds a friend and protector in an older girl Wil (Madison Pettis).

The common factor in the three plots is the puppy Paws. He is an adorable and appealing scene stealer even when playing against precious children like cute Maher and talented Pettis. He is what makes this mix of classic orphan stories and store Santa Clauses work. An occasional song, an elf, reindeer, and some magic from a great ice crystal save Santa, Paws, the children, and the day.

The cast for Santa Paws includes Zachary Gordon (Santa Paws), Richard Kind (Eddy), Josh Flitter (T-Money), Kaitlyn Maher (Quinn), Madison Pettis (Will), Richard Riehle (Santa Claus), Danny Woodburn (Eli), Bonnie Somerville (Kate Huckle), John Ducey (James Huckle), Wendi McLendon-Covey (Mrs. stout), Patrika Darbo (Mrs. Claus), and Mitchel Musso (Santa Paws). Other than Reihl’s cosmetics making his face appear appear harsh and masklike, makeup, costuming, props, and sets worked well.

The Search for Santa Paws is about true giving and the meaning of Christmas. It can be found online and in most local stores November 23, 2010. The 2 disk Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack has a SMRP of $39.99. Its running time is 88 minutes. Its extras include The Huckleberry Hero, Sing Along Mode, music video Deck the Halls, and deleted scenes.
