Evenflo has just released the Momentum 65 DLX Convertible Car Seat, with features that help make safety, installation and use as easy as possible for parents. On the Evenflo site there is a series of webisodes.
I just watched three of Evenflo’s “Are You A Savvy Parent?” episodes. Quite frankly, parents should act as adult role-models not playmate friends. Momma and dads are not meant to be cheerleaders for everything their child does. Get real.
Everything is relative. Isn’t that what makes the reality Funniest Moments shows so appealing to audiences? These clips show small pieces of life at the extreme. They do not reflect day to day experience in total. What is a funny moment for one person may be innocuous to others.
“How to Recover from a Potty Mouth Moment” showed mom not dad with a foul mouth. Her poor choice of words and road rage reaction in anger were places we all have been sometime. Loosing her cool probably touched her family more than another motorist’s bad driving. We teach by example. How we talk and act matter to the people around us. I shook my head several times while watching the webisode.
I understand the mother’s bad day experience but think she could have handled it better and differently. It could have been a teaching experience. I have always been an open person. Blunt is a good descriptor for what I say–not subtle at all. I always spoke openly in front of my own kids and explained to them what’s up. Sometimes I told them about one thing when really they were referring to another. That’s OK.
No word ever makes me cringe in horror. I look at its context. If a baby is playing with a big red wagon and says the four letter word, he probably mispronounced. Meaning and intent make me cringe or not.
I remember my grandson swearing for a time like a sailor. I warned him once. I warned him twice. The third time the soap was out. After a couple of applications he refrained from cussing in my house. However, a few days we were driving in the car and he began again. I told him to stop. He didn’t. I waited until we got home, took out three bars of soap. One for the moment. One for my purse. One for my car. It didn’t happen after that with me. He was just testing me and limits. Don’t we all?
