The menu for our Fourth of July family gathering was simple–noshes: deviled eggs, pickles, chips, salsa, guacamole; meats: dijon burgers, smoked sausage, Italian sausage, buffalo wings; salads: grilled corn on the cob, baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad; desserts: cupcakes, brownies, ice cream; and beverages: cold soda, tea, water plus.
Youngest son ran to the store for ice and fresh rolls. Hubby helped set up. I had cleanup at the end so I relaxed and enjoyed the company while I could. From noon until dark, we ate, drank, and were merry. In the distant skies overhead, we could see fireworks from our neighboring town and several towns across the bay.
The guests were great. Everyone pitched in to help out. Oldest son’s wife brought a star spangled banner of cupcakes. Daughter got the ice cream. Middle son barbecued. One of his friends did the eggs.
I thought that making the guacamole would be difficult. It wasn’t as one of his friends made two batches one from scratch and one with Mrs. Wages Guacamole Seasoning Mix.
The crowd tasted both. Taste test results were similar. End conclusions were that Mrs. Wages directions allowing for water should be disregarded. The guacamole needs the lime juice for zip. Also, adding it keeps the avocado looking more appetizing because it doesn’t turn brown. It went great with the corn chips. It made an excellent condiment on the burgers.
Can’t beat Mrs. Wages. She is quick and easy. Just add fresh veggies or fruit to any of her prepackaged salsa mixes and prep is done. No lengthy directions or multiple list of ingredients needed. Packages can be bought online and sell for approximately $1.49 each. Varieties available include Classic Salsa Mix, Jalapeno Salsa Mix, Chipotle & Garlic Salsa Mix, Habanero Salsa Mix, Salsa Verde Salsa Mix, Fruit & Cilantro Salsa Mix and All Natural Guacamole Seasoning Mix.
