Dear Eileen,
Hope the days are being kind. I remember that during the WWII Era and shortly after three generations living together in small city apartments. Then came the suburban sprawl and tract housing. Extended families had a lot going for them. We do what we have to–simple as that. My own son-in-law has been out of steady work for about 18 months. I wish I could help my daughter more but in this economy the money is just not there. I never thought that a fixed ss income would look good. Go figure. The young think any wage is great. The old are pushed out the door when experience really counts. I personally feel that part of the problem is that many businesses in this country pay under the table illegals keeping things like unemployment rates escalating and costing benefits like jobs. Boy, does this hurt us taxpayers!

I agree Pat…when will it end? My son in law was out of work for 5 months now, but was also working a part time job at a convenience store too, so he didnt even qualify for anything. He just got offered a job last week, but nothing on paper yet. They are in danger of losing their house…and we would have trouble even taking them in as we hardly have room for the 5 of us already. Not enough bedrooms to take in 3 more…but we would if we had too.
He is a college grad too, and over 5 years of management. My daughter has had her job for about 6 years, but that doesn’t give you much seniority. It doesn’t matter what you have under you, or what degree…the jobs are just not there if the businesses keep folding. AND if you are too young *bottom of the totem pole, OR too old…they put you out! SCARY!!
