Light Reading Made For Bike Reading

I love to shop so it won’t surprise anyone that over the years I have bought my kid and grand kids everything from soup to nuts. Almost every different form of transportation available including skates, skateboards, scooters, tricycles, mopeds, electric bikes and cars has been found wrapped under the tree.   I am exaggerating, of course, the car was hidden outside with a big, big bow after my son-in-law opened boxes within boxes within boxes to find a note telling where it was hidden.

I remember my firstborn having a daily paper route before the APP decided to stop hiring kids and use only adult carriers.  It really taught her responsibility and how to respect and save her money.  It also gave her perks like tips for service above and beyond.  Deliveries weren’t so cold. She had known her customers, her neighbors, her whole life.  I digress.  Back to transportation.

Bunny loved her shiny black Motorbecane  and put thousand and thousands of miles on it before she retired it for a jalopy.  Licensed, insured, helmet on head she delivered from the time she was eleven to the time she was eighteen (seven years).  She did her job well.  Back then always had her own money in her pocket for non-necessities and fun, saved enough to finance a high school trip abroad, and even managed to fund a great senior trip to Florida.

One day Bunny did not come home on time.  I worried.  She knew how to tell time and kept curfews day and night.  I was in tears.  Hubby was dispatched out to search for her.  Minutes later he returned promising that she was on her way back.

I demanded, “What is wrong?  Where is she?  What happened?   This is not like my daughter.”

There was a smile on his face, but to me it was no laughing matter.  He replied that she would explain all upon her return.  I waited.  The minutes seemed like hours until she came through the door.

“Well?”

“I stopped on Sunnydale.”

“Why?  You know you are not allowed to go into houses.”

“I didn’t.  I brought a book,” she explained sheepishly.

Hubby had found her sitting on her moped reading.  She got so into the story that she forgot time….  What could I say?  This is a true story.

(For those unfamiliar with electric bikes there is a nice description on the Pedego Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/PedegoElectricBikes.)
