Driving up the coast from Jersey to Connecticut, I made a wish list of the things a good room reservation must have: location, pool and fitness center, and most of all a comfortable bed. Hubby added to that television, internet service, cleanliness and a good staff. Extras like microwaves, refrigerators, continental breakfast or a laundry would make it better still and over the top.
We arrived at the Hampton Inn and Suites Mystic mid-afternoon. The place was easy to find off the interstate and near a picturesque coast, convenient to everything–restaurants, shopping, and local attractions. Hubby commented as we pulled into its parking lot, “This is a new hotel.” The woman at the desk was courteous, friendly, helpful. She answered our questions and gave needed directions as she efficiently checked us in. The public areas downstairs were large, comfortably furnished, impeccably clean and truly inviting.
As hubby went for our bags, I took a quick self-tour of Hampton’s business center, fitness center, and indoor pool. En route I discovered a laundry room. Hubby found me in the gift shop/store. We walked to the elevator delighted with the amenities, wondering how we would find our room.
We found no room–suite instead, sweet, sweet, sweet! It was was huge. We were two hoping for a romantic break from our everyday life. But what about if we had come as a family? Well, even with its kingsize bed, end tables, pullout sofa, desk, dresser, table and chairs, the place was roomy enough for both a cot and a crib without any cramming. The kitchenette boasted a sink, refrigerator, and microwave. The bath split (toilet and tub) separate from an eight foot double vanity sink–good idea for traffic control.
Then it was out for a show, shopping, sightseeing, and dinner (my posts on them are separate). We returned mid-evening tired, needing to relax. Together we watched some television. Then I crawled into bed. Hubby stayed up for a while playing on the internet. We slept in the next morning. Hubby opted out of the free deluxe hot continental breakfast for more ZZZ’s. I headed down to an appetizing buffet of morning fare and a complimentary newspaper. Fresh, tasteful, ample describes my repast. On the way back up, I passed the desk and considerately grabbed one of Hampton’s Breakfast on the Go bags for my spouse.
