How I wished that my flat screen television were bigger as I watched Escape from Pirate’s Cove on Blu-ray! Filming was breath-taking, vibrant and natural. I felt I was there in the Capetown, South Africa locale. Its water, mountains, and land poised the perfect backdrop for the script.
Kerra Cooper (Bindi Irwin) is sent to visit her grandfather Gus Grisby (Beau Bridges) for the summer. He is a gruff man who owns a rundown amusement park. When a baby orca swims into its lagoon and gets stuck there, Kerra bonds with him, names him Willy, and convinces her grandfather to let her try to help it for a while. Things seem better then Gus realizes he cannot take care of the young killer whale. He agrees to sell it but has second thoughts. Gus helps Kerra free the mammal and reunite it with its pod.
The Free Willy, Escape from Pirate’s Cove Combo Pack which includes a Blue-ray, DVD, and digital copy, lists for $35.99. The movie is rated PG for mild thematic elements. Its running time is 101 minutes. Dads, moms, and kids will enjoy this family adventure. Look for it in local stores March 23, 2010.
