Since my surgery, my favorite foods are fruits, veggies, and dairy especially cheese. Recently I was asked to review Finlandia cheese. The pleasure was truly mine. The muenster and the gouda deli slices that I tried were imported from Finland, all natural with no hormones added, and lactose free. Fresh, pure, delicious best describe both. The nutritional label per slice tells all: muenster–86 calories with 0 carbs and 6 grams protein; gouda–79 calories with 0 carbs and 6 grams protein. This is really healthy food!
The muenster has a soft consistency and was full-bodied yet delicate, creamy, and mild. Its ingredients are cultured pasteurized milk, salt, enzymes, and annato. I’ve had muenster before and this is one of the best I have tasted. The gouda’s texture is similar and best described as smooth, mild, creamy, and rich. I had to restrain myself from finishing the package. I decided both would be excellent choices for an evening nosh when entertaining. I consider Finlandia cheese gourmet. Its history of 150+ years of pure and flavorful master cheesemaking.
With so many different varieties (swiss, light swiss, muenster, lappi, havarti, gouda, glouchester, and monterey jack/colby jack), don’t miss trying and buying. The deli slices I got in my local supermarket were tagged at $4.99 for a 7 ounce package with a printable manufacturer’s coupon available online. I appreciate their zip-lock reseal.
Finlandia has some pairing and serving suggestions. Be sure to visit www.finlandiacheese.com and check them out, along with some recipes.
Here’s one of my favorites.
