Synopsis: The beloved Caillou is back in four new-to-DVD episodes featuring 14 fun-filled outdoor adventures. Delightfully imaginative and intrepid, Caillou is ready to teach kids about nature, patience, creativity and outdoor activities. The CAILLOU: CAILLOU’S FUN OUTSIDE! DVD also includes interactive games, music videos, parents’ information and coloring pages – a perfect break from fun in the sun.

In an earlier blog (April 17, 2010), I reviewed a Caillou DVD that my youngest grandson loved, so when the chance to review another came along I immediately said yes. Bald-headed Caillou reminds me of young children naturally fascinated with the world around them. PBS Kids Caillou, Caillou’s Fun Outside includes fourteen all new to animated DVD episodes.

I appreciate PBS’s sensitivity to special needs. Too many children are not properly exposed to the fact that people are different in many ways. Learning about handicaps, Down’s Syndrome, etc. is something everybody young and old needs. Glad PBS and Caillou are helping lead the way while it is entertaining and education our young ones. Thanks PBS.

Here is a little about DVD contents:

* In Caillou Outdoors, Caillou makes a scarecrow to protect his garden, takes a road trip with his family, and plays with a special visitor named Alan who has Down’s Syndrome. Episodes include Caillou’s April Fool, Shoo Bird, Fly Away, Caillou’s Road Trip, and Caillou the Dragon Tamer.

* In Springtime for Caillou, the little boy delivers Valentine’s Day cards as Cupid, prepares for spring, and joins Mommy and Daddy for some April Fool’s Day fun. Episodes include Caillou’s Valentines, Caillou’s Spring, and Caillou’s April Fool.

* In All Wet, he learns about having fun with water through fishing, making a homemade water park, playing a laundry game, and swimming with a new friend Tammy who happens to be handicapped. Episodes include Gone Fishing, Caillou’s Water Park, and The Water Goes Round.

* In Outdoor Adventures, Caillou explores nature by taking a canoe trip, learns duck calling tricks, befriends a rabbit, and encounters a herd of cows during family picnics. Episodes include Caillou’s Canoe Trip, The Duck Family, Disappearing Carrots, and Who’s Mooing?

Plus, the DVD has special features like games, Caillou’s printable coloring pages, Caillou’s music videos, Caillou helps parents too, and a message to parents about Caillou, how kids relate to Caillou, and is Caillou appropriate for my preschooler. What more could there be?
