Build-A-Bear Announces Search For Huggable Heroes

buildabear huggable heroes logo

I believe in kids. They are America’s future. So when I heard about the Huggable Heroes program that Build-A-Bear Workshop has sponsored for the last seven years, I wanted to make my readers aware of it.

Ten young leaders aged 8 through 18 from the U. S.A. and Canada who have given far and wide, from their hometowns to other countries, will be recognized for their efforts. They will travel with a parent to St. Louis, Build-A-Bear Workshop World BearQuarters to participate in the 2011 Build-A-Bear Workshop Huggable Heroes Calendar photo shoot. Plus each of the chosen leaders will receive a $7,500 educational scholarship for himself/herself along with a $2,500 donation to a 501(c)(3) charity of his/her choice.

Build-A- Bear says, “There are many pawsome kids doing great things to help others and we want to hear about them!” If you know a deserving youth, please enter him from now through February 26, 2010, at www.buildabear.com/huggableheroes. Entry forms are also available at participating Build-A-Bear Workshops in the U. S.and Canada.

I think youth SHOULD be rewarded!!! I know others think it is something we should try to instill in our kids from home, school, and community with no ulterior motive to be rewarded, but I think these kids MOTIVATE and INSPIRE other kids. These HEROES seem to be from all walks of life, some affected by illness or heartache and see a NEED. Many are unprompted by their parents and I find that so amazing! I mean, if they can do these great things as KIDS, imaging what they will do as adults in the future!!! I am so proud of them and don’t even know them.
BUILD a BEAR should be revered as a pretty AWESOME company in trying to get the awareness out there. I love that they are allowing a portion of the reward to go to the child’s favorite charity. Some will say it is a PR thing to help the company, but no matter…they are DoiNG something where as others are NOT!!!

Yay for kid HEROES and Build a Bear!

    Dear Eileen,
The Sons of the American Legion in our state have a Young Citizen’s Award for that boy or girl who goes beyond for others selflessly. It is ironic that as many years as not no one is nominated. Adults have to recognize true altruism more, true scolastics more, and less eauty pageants and sports competitions. The values we set forth becomes the mark for those who follow. Life cannot be just do what I say. There must be more do as I do with proper leadership and example. t begins in the home then the neighborhood and the schools.
