I know what I like and don’t usually enjoy substituting. I try to pack for every contingency. Besides clothes for the bare whether…I factor in emergency stuff like weather, illness, hunger, and, oops, almost forgot, free reading. I don’t choose novels for vacations though. I want to be out and about not sitting in my room turning page after page until the end. I need something that will get me through airplane travel with all its holds and delays.

Spirit no longer supplies magazines. What you pay for is what you get, but that is another topic. I didn’t see any magazines that appealed to my sense and sensibilities so I had hubby pack my electronic reader with a half dozen classics. Semper fi works for me. However, I still wanted something light and hopefully humorous. When the delivery man rang my doorbell, I found just what I was searching for–The Lunar Antics Presents: Boy I’d Hate to Be Out Of That Stuff!

As I flipped through its pages, I knew it would be perfect, a social commentary of people and their idiosyncrasies from the perspective of an outsider looking in. The paperback’s newspaper style cartoons, both black & white and color, covers many diverse topics. Robert Walters’s graphic arts publication is a good way to motivate the reluctant reader with high content. Moon inhabitants Zeno, Zed, Linda, and Drusus give earthling Professor Jones much to think about.

I had a big problem though. I enjoyed the jokes about interest rates, invisible food, magnetic personalities, etc. so much that I couldn’t stop reading it. Alternate plan went into effect, namely sudoku.

This perfect comic strip compilation is 142 pages. It lists for $17.95 and can be ordered directly at www.lunarantics.com.
