Feeding Penny Pig reminded me of a blue plaster piggy I had as a young child. Perhaps that is why I so delighted in it.
I love the story about a loving yet practical Mimi who chooses a special gift for her grandchild, Laney, that will last throughout the child’s life. Most children have ample teddies, books, toys, and clothes. They are enjoyed for the moment then grown out of or passed over as the child matures. Mimi carefully chooses something different.
When Mimi finds a unique pig crying, she learns the pig, really a bank, is hungry. So she gives it a name, Penny Pig and buys it for her granddaughter to feed. The lonely pig is thrilled. Laney gets the pig as a birthday present. She does chores to earn pennies for it and take good cares of the pig.
This book shows children about money, allowance, and chores. It helps teach them responsibility. It is never too early to begin solid training. On a scale of 1-10, I loved this book. Its artwork is big, bright, and beautiful. Its text is high interest with age-appropriate vocabulary.
