Story: Celebrate the holidays with Mickey’s Christmas Carol, a beloved classic short film that is now part of the Disney Animation Collection! Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and many more of your favorite characters join the cast in this delightfully charming adaptation of a classic holiday tale. Ebeneezer Scrooge (Scrooge McDuck) is far too greedy to understand that Christmas is the time for kindness and generosity. So, with the guidance of some wise ghosts (with Goofy and Jiminy Cricket), and the examples set by his clerk Bob Cratchit (Mickey Mouse) and nephew Fred (Donald Duck), Scrooge learns how to embrace the true spirit of the season. Each volume in the Disney Animation Collection series is packed with classic Disney short films that will bring laughter and merriment into your family’s home.
Bonus Shorts
- Pluto’s Christmas Tree
- The Small One
- Santa’s Workshop
When all my kids were growing up, we always went to see the Disney movies. When they started putting them on to VHS tapes, we bought them all. Well, VHS has been replaced by DVD’s and BluRays so it is time to replace them one by one.
Disney has just released Mickey’s Christmas Carol and three other shorts (The Small One, Pluto’s Christmas Tree, and Santa’s Workshop) in time for the holidays. It goes on sale September 29, 2009. There is something in this video for everyone–morality, religion, tradition, humor. It even includes a collectible litho print suitable for framing.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol is an adaption of Charles Dickens’s classic. The story is about love and hope. The plot centers on changes and redemption. Why does a man harden? What can turn his life around? It is all there from the beginning “Bah Humbug!” to the last “God bless us, everyone”.
Scrooge McDuck (Alan Young) plays namesake Ebenezer Scrooge. Mickey Mouse (Wayne Allwise) is Bob Cratchit; Ratty (Hal Smith) and Mole (Will Ryan), collectors; Donald Duck (Clarence Nash), nephew Fred; Goofy (Hal Smith), Jacob Marley; Jiminy Cricket (Eddie Caroll), Ghost of Christmas Past; Mr. Toad, Mr. Fezziwig; Daisy Duck (Patricia Parres), Isabelle; Willie the Giant (Will Ryan), Ghost of Christmas Present; Black Pete (Will Ryan), Christmas Yet to Come; and Bill Billingsley as Tiny Tim.
The Small One is based on a short story written by Charles Tazewell. It tells of a young boy in Nazareth forced to sell his best friend, an old donkey named Small One. Only the tanner who will kill the donkey for his hide is willing to buy the animal. Then a man on his way to Bethlehem with his pregnant wife gives the boy a piece of silver.
Pluto’s Christmas Tree is a take on how Mickey’s dog Pluto tries to decorate a Christmas tree. Uh, oh! He becomes the victim of Chip and Dale’s hijinks.
Santa’s Workshop is an early 1932 Disney animated Silly Symphonies short. Santa is busy–toys, packing the sleigh, and his famous ride are there. Look carefully in his sack and you may just find some Disney creations.

Marci,
I always thoought Yet to Come was the ominous one. When I directed our Christmas play I had him in a black gown hooded, face obscure.
