Tom and Jerry’s Greatest Chases Volume 3 DVD Review

tom jerry greatest chases season 3 dvd cover

Warner Bros. Presents Tom and Jerry Greatest Chases Volume 3

Available on DVD: October 13, 2009

Tom and Jerry animated cartoons were the first directorial projects of Hanna-Barbera. In their seventeen years of the greatest cat and mouse ever, they won seven Academy Awards for Best Short Subject.
Tom and Jerry’s Greatest Chases, Volume 3 puts fourteen classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons together. Running time is 101 minutes.

This DVD contains “Cat Napping”, “The Flying Cat”, “The Two Mouseketeers”, “Smitten Kitten”, “Baby Butch”, “Designs on Jerry”, “Pecos Pest”, “Touche, Pussy Cat!”, “The Flying Sorceress”, “Blue Cat Blues”, “The Night Before Christmas”, “The Bowling Alley-Cat”, “Fine Feathered Friend”, and “Puttin’ on the Dog”.

From the first moments of “Cat Napping” to the final ones of “Putting on the Dog”, the viewer can count on mischief and mayhem as one rodent-plagued cat gets his come uppences from a rodent and associates. With almost no dialogue, it’s all in the visual gags. Tom with his cat instincts plays the heavy to a cute little mouse who always comes out on top unharmed.

With all the competition in today’s world, I have some reservations about how shorts sometimes glorify one-upmanship. Two wrongs do not make a right; yet that is how some of these cartoons show. I also am not sure how the violence of the cat vs. mouse rivalry will affect kids when the TV is babysitting.

Now as for me, well, I enjoyed watching these slapstick, award winning cartoons originally run pre-show in movie theaters. I’d buy this DVD–hubby would love it. He says it is all about reversals. Tom and Jerry brought back old times, loads of smiles, and giggles. The DVD of Greatest Chases has a release date of October 13, 2009. Watch for it.

  1. Looney Tunes, Droopy and Tom & Jerry were a number of my favorite cartoons once I was growing up and it’s nice to work out that they are finally getting released on DVD sets since they are not shown on TV anymore. None of these newer cartoons even compare to those and most likely none ever will. These classics are definately worth selecting up and definately have alot of replay value.

  2. I love Tom and Jerry as I remember watching them as a kid! 🙂
I just might have to get this one for the grandchildren~Thanks so much for the review!!
