Tips for buying auto insurance

Just how good is your automobile insurance? If you are like most Americans, you know only what your insurance agent tells you. Too many policy holders never bother to read their coverage documents. They rely on the word and recommendation of a salesman who works on commission. This is wrong.

Here are some questions anyone purchasing a new car should consider. Should I buy gap insurance? Can collision repairs be completed out of network? Are an autos bluetooth capabilities worth the cost? There are no simple yes or no answers. It all depends.

Insurance quotes are often the deciding factor on what coverage you elect. Be wary of any company that promises the lowest rates. Drivers are as individual as fingerprints and DNA. Sex, age, school grades, drivers education classes, driving experience, driving record (that means violations), marital status, and believe it or not credit rating affect pricing.

And the list goes on. Needless to say coverage and deductibles are the biggest factors. However, state of residence as well as area, ex. urban and rural, will bring up or down total dollars spent. How many vehicles are listed and what kind they are can make premiums rise. How many people are listed on the policy has the same effect.

People seeking insurance have to be on the alert and be sure to ask for any available discounts.  Membership in certain organizations like AARP and AAA sometime discount. Be smart and shop around for insurance quotes before you buy.
