Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Very First Alvin Show
Own it on DVD on Sep 8, 2009
Runtime: 1 Hr. 14 Min. Sec.
US Rating: N/R
Synopsis: The very first broadcast show of the classic Chipmunk series from 1961 that started it all, never released before on VHS or DVD! The Chipmunks humor, mischief and music are on full display! The DVD includes this classic episode, plus two additional episodes, “Rockin Through The Decades” and “A Chipmunk Reunion.”
The child within me came out again as I was viewing the September 8, 2009 release of The Very First Alvin Show DVD. Who would have ever thought that David Seville (Ross Bagdasarian, Sr.) would have come up with hit music by recording then speeding up music giving its playback at a higher pitch? Who would have believed that fifty years later, his Chipmunk creations–Alvin, the mischievous star, Simon, the intellectual wit, and Theodore, the loveable innocent, would still be popular?
I enjoyed seeing the first episode of the 1961 television show but I loved the bonus episode, Rocking through the Decades, even more. Will Smith, Ben Vereen, Richard Moll, Kenny Loggins, Raven Symone, Shelley Duvall, Markie Post, and Little Richard were there for commentary on the music of Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, and Bruce Springstein a la Chipmunk. What a trip to see a young, still publicly non-controversial Jackson video snippet!
I liked the message behind A Chipmunk Reunion. It is important for people to realize that hard times bring problems and choices. Sometimes things happen, but there can still be love.

I remember watching Alvin on TV as a little girl. Most especially I remember singing the holiday song along with my brother and the chipmunks, and the “Hula Hoop” line in the song was an absolute favorite. We can still sing the words together to this day!

We use to watch the Alvin and the Chipmunk Show on tv when we were kids way back in the early 60′s. That was a fun time growing up! Thank you!
