Ripley’s Aquarium, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

ripleys aquarium

Believe it or not Ripley’s is more than just a museum filled with the weird, wacky, bizarre. It’s Myrtle Beach’s Haunted Adventure, Marvelous Mirror Maze, Moving Theater, and Aquarium as well. Ripley’s (owned by the Jim Patterson Group of Vancouver, BC) is great attractions at family value.

Recently I got a chance to visit its world-class Ripley Aquarium and see thousands of exotic sea creatures for myself. Exhibit highlights include the Schooling Tank, Rio Amazon, Rainbow Rock, Dangerous Reef, Discovery Center, Living Gallery, Ray Bay, Friendship Flats. I viewed closeup what happens under water. I came within inches of dangerous sharks–luckily separated from me by thick glass.

Right now the changeable attraction is “Living Babies in Incubators.”   Shark, chick, seahorse, jellyfish, frog, bird, and crocodile babies hatching…how cute! Wish I could be there July 24-26. The next attraction scheduled is twelve special shows featuring the world famous Weeke Wachi Mermaids.

Ripley’s Aquarium is one of the Top Ten Most Visited in the United States. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), it has entertained more than 10 million guests since it opened in 1997. Why? It is fun entertainment. This aquarium houses 87,000 square foot, 1.2 million gallon salt-water tanks so something different is always in the works.

This Myrtle Beach attraction is open 365 days a year with hours varying by season. Like the ads say, “It is truly an amazing, must see attraction”, so if you find yourself anywhere near 1110 Celebrity Circle at Broadway at the Beach, make some time for it. Bet you enjoy yourself as much as I did.

I love Myrtle Beach. I’ve never been to the Ripley’s museum there though. I did go to one in Atlantic City that was pretty good.

Myrtle Beach is Pigeon Forge with the ocean instead of the Smokies.
Hope to see it one day. Already seen the Ripley’s aquarium of the
Smokies and it was really nice!
