In today’s economy the housing market is down so more and more people are staying put and modernizing what they have. In dollars and cents this really makes sense.
Realtors insist that the kitchen is the best place to invest money in any residence. A complete redo is never cheap. Most average homeowners spend big, big bucks to completely replace walls, floors, cabinets, counter tops, appliances, and fixtures. Now if someone does not have that much to put into his property at once, there are still ways to go. Do-it-yourselfers can forgo the contractors. Sure it is more work and not easy, but it does save money. Do-it-yourselfers can buy wholesale. Places like Home Depot are thriving because they gear themselves to middle America. They can restore and remodel in stages.
The first place that shows the wear and tear of daily use and constant traffic is the kitchen sink. The task is of replacing one reasonably easy and inexpensive to complete once choosing the sink is made. Styles range from the practical and functional to the designer and artisan. Will it be a farmsink, self-rimming, under-counter mount, fireclay, wood, stone, or metal one?

The trend is toward stainless steel metal sinks, with copper sinks also becoming popular. Decide what bowl size is best–single, double, or triple. Consider installing a garbage disposal at the same time. Pick needed accessories like faucet and spray. Then get started. Step by step videos, books, and magazines lay it all out step by step.
I recently volunteered hubby to complete this simple renovation. He had no problems with the kitchen. I’m something else. Now I want him to reface cabinets and redesign their placement. I’ll get back to you on how it turns out.
