Reflecting On Barbie

twilight barbie dolls

I was born pre-Barbie into a world of baby dolls, bald or hairy, rubber or porcelain perhaps, big and little, who could sometimes drink and wet. About the time I was outgrowing them, Barbie came on the scene. Who would have thought fifty years later, a parody on adult life would become the sought object of 100,000+ avid collectors?

Barbie, her friends, her pets, her home, her job, and her dress up outfits today are classic. She tops wish lists every year because little girls want her and spin off items like this year’s Barbie Digital Nail Printer. And why not? Barbie has become a child role model and a fashion icon for them in their desire to be just like a big girl. Pretty good for a doll who stands only 11.5 inches tall.

I did not believe when I went on line how many I found including a few that have since been retired. This year’s favorites include a Barbie Collector Holiday Doll and A Generation of Dreams Doll. One model that’s sure to be sought after is this year’s trendy Twilight Barbie Bella Doll. Yes, there are now Barbie dolls based on the popular books and movies. If they don’t suit your taste or pocketbook, there are more 2009 Barbies in a variety of styles and price ranges.
