Lysol Healthy School Year Tips With Giveaway

lysol disinfecting wipes and spray

I never fully realized how school affected kids and teachers until after I retired. Up to that time, I was sick every fall. I often suspected that it was a workplace building problem. Then I realized that it was the sheer number of children in the building in close contact with one another on the bus, in the hall, in the cafeteria, in the library, and especially in the classroom.

Well, the simple fact is that neither parents nor teachers can control student population. Students are sent that way from home. What parents and teachers can do though is promote better health habits and minimize exposure.

The Health administration is predicting a very serious cold and flu season, so back to school is the perfect time to teach your children about healthy hygiene habits. Dr. Laura Jana and Lysol have some suggestions on this:

  1. Teach healthy hygiene habits. See the kid-friendly site www.oopskids.com for ideas. This Web site is an expansion from an existing health campaign with the CDC – Ounce of Prevention http://www.cdc.gov/ounceofprevention/.
  2. Have your children wash up when they return home from school while you spray their book bags with Lysol. Remember: Lysol Disinfectant Spray kills 99.9% of soft surface bacteria. Check out the Lysol Back to School Information Center at http://lysol.com/send-school-germs-packing/ for more on the topic.

Here are some additional resources for parents at Lysol.com.

  • The Germ Information Center (www.lysol.com/germ-information-center/) provides useful information to help families fully understand the threat posed by germs.
  • Resources & Downloads (www.lysol.com/germ-information-center/resources/) has a variety of downloads including the “Looking After You” series of booklets, which provide practical information and tips for keeping you and your children healthy from pregnancy through childhood.

Help beat those germs. They are nasty!

WIN IT!

Some of my favorite germ-fighting tips are: to teach children to sneeze or cough into the bend of their arm or down their shirt instead of into their hand which will spread the germs pronto! Of course the old favorites are to wash your hands often and to stay home if you are sick!

We keep hand sanitizer in our car and bags, and sanitize ours and the kids hands while we’re out, if we can’t get to a sink. Grocery carts, communal toys, etc are DIRTY.

My favorite germ fighting tip is having everyone either wipe their feet on the mat at the door or to remove their shoes. I read somewhere that there are thousands of germs brought in the house just from the bottom of shoes. Thank you!

I carry the Lysol wipes in the car, being an obsessive/compulsive we wipe our hands and feet before we get in the car>> carry them to bathrooms to open the door to leave after washing our hands. Don’t get me started on hand-rails, we don’t use them!!!! We spray backpacks and books>> seats at sporting events and the list goes on! I would rather my children ate dirt than to touch some of the things out there today.

We wash our hands a lot and I disinfect the door handles around the house often. I try to avoid touching public door handles. If I can open the door with my foot or shoulder I do! I also carry a few antibacterial wipes and some hand sanitizer with me.

My husband is a teacher, so he’s exposed to a lot and with three small kids in the house I do everything I can to keep things clean.
