GIFT IDEA – HIDDEN MICKEYS BOOKS BY STEVEN M. BARRETT

I am an observer. I like to watch. There is always something to learn. I also like as a layman to look at architecture and design. I am also an avid Disney vacationer who is constantly touring one location of the Mouse or another. Two Disney Line cruises, innumerable day trips to Disneyland, and twenty-five years of vacationing on property in WDW make me want to look at more than surface.

Enter Hidden Mickeys, classic, profile, full-length, 3-D and more, the inside joke Imagineers pulled in the late 1970′s so his character would be in more than just the Magic Kingdom. Finding Hidden Mickeys can be a fun scavenger hunt. Beware. Many are so well camouflaged and hidden that detailed instructions are necessary. One no-no when searching, do not confuse them with the decorative Mickeys in plain sight. They are meant to be elusive. And be aware some Hidden Mickeys are not visible or accessible to guests.

Barrett’s Hidden Mickeys Go to Sea lists 100 he found in his own huntings on the Magic, the Wonder, and Castaway Cay. His Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys Guide documents another 275. His Hidden Mickeys which covers Walt Disney World’s Magic kingdom, Epcot, Disney studios, Animal Kingdom, Resort Hotels, and hither and thither meaning locations elsewhere on property places 800 more.

Hubby and I have been on guided tours before so it is about time for us to take a self-guided one. Next time we some non-scheduled time, we plan to search and find. We are bringing a field guide along as we are sure to need a hint or two to figure out some of the cryptic clues. It is a sure thing that we will enjoy ourselves and have a barrel of laughs en route.

These three Hidden Mickeys books may be purchased online from The Intrepid Traveler and other retailers, as well as in select bookstores nationwide.

About Hidden Mickeys: Walt Disney World’s Best Kept Secrets (4th edition)

In the latest edition of his Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide To Walt Disney World’s Best Kept Secrets (Intrepid Traveler, $12.95), he has added some 100 previously unknown Mickeys for a grand total of nearly 900.

About Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys

Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys is Barrett’s second field guide to the phenomenon. Like its predecesssor, Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys is arranged as a series of scavenger hunts — three in this case — complete with clues, hints, and points to be scored. In this new edition, Barrett has added over 100 new hidden Mickeys spotted in the Disneyland Resort’s two theme parks and its restaurants, hotels, and shops, bringing the grand total to 275. Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys also includes an “Index to Mickey’s Hiding Places,” which makes it easy to find any Mickey in the book, with or without scavenger hunting.

About Hidden Mickeys Go to Sea: A Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line’s Best Kept Secrets

“Like its predecessors, Hidden Mickeys Go To Sea is set up as a series of scavenger hunts, with “Clues” to get you going and “Hints” in case you get stuck. There is a hunt for the Disney Magic, a hunt for the Disney Wonder, and one for Castaway Cay. With over one hundred Hidden Mickeys to find, fans will find plenty as they roam the ships and families will have a great activity to share. They can even compete with one another for points.”

The Disneyland resorts book would be good since I live near Disneyland. I have never see any of the Disney hidden secrets that I know of.
