I recently was given the opportunity to review teen-age sensation Miley Cyrus AKA Hanna Montana’s movie about to be released on DVD. It is a twisting tale that takes Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) back to her hometown roots in Crowley Corners, Tennessee. It is a story to which both the young and old can relate as it shows what happens when popularity takes over her life. Hannah was created so Miley could have a normal life, but Hannah got to mean everything.

Away from the celebrity lifestyle and its glitz and glamour, Miley gains new perspective and figures out what really matters in her life. She doesn’t like her own outrageous behavior, insensitive treatment of her loved ones, and how she humiliates others. She decides she doesn’t want to be Hannah Montana all the time. Instead she wants her own life back.

The Hannah Montana Movie has laughs, adventure, music; it’s wholesome family fun. Performances by Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Billie Ray Cyrus, and Hanna Montana fill out the story within a story. Crowley Corners needs money to fight a developer from destroying its way of life. Miley, because she said Hanna is her friend, is chosen to invite her to give a concert at the town fair. She tells the people who she is but things turn out fine when no body tells it. So the double life goes on a while longer.

The purpose of entertainment is, of course, to give its audience the opportunity to enjoy itself. Nevertheless, it has another purpose as important–to teach. Miley’s father and her grand “Do good things,” and “Be proud,” and “Never forget where you came from” isn’t preachy; it’s just good advice. Too many movies have veered from these courses in the name of private pleasures and vicarious thrills. Too bad for those flicks. Thanks Walt Disney Pictures. I like your family movies.
