Eleventh Hour, The Complete Series DVD

Legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer is back again in the nick of time with Eleventh Hour. This Complete 6-Disc, 18-Episode Series stars Rufus Sewell as a brilliant biophysicist and special science advisor to the government investigating scientific crises and oddities – everything from cloning to cryogenics. With absolute jurisdiction and a resolve to apprehend those abusing and misusing scientific discoveries and breakthroughs for their own gain, he’s called in as the last line of defense. Marley Shelton co-stars as the decorated FBI protection officer assigned to watch his back. Based on the British miniseries by acclaimed writer Stephen Gallagher, the suspenseful series follows the unlikely pair as they crusade to protect the substance of science from those with nefarious motives.

Perhaps, you are one of the fans watched Eleventh Hour on CBS last year. If you did, you may appreciate that on October 20, 2009, its eighteen episodes were released for sale on DVD. The show is classified as science fiction drama although there is a startling absence of both supernatural and sci-fi elements.

A team exists to solve crimes of both scientific and paranormal nature. It is composed of biophysicist Dr. Jacob Hood (Rufus Sewell), FBI agent Rachel Young (Marley Sheton), and assistant Felix Lee (Omar Benson Miller). Together they delve into cloning, viruses, genetically modified mutations, autism, drugs, genes, flesh-eating bacteria, poisoning, nuclear exposure, stem cell research, mercury contamination, lightning strikes, and toxins.

Storytelling is sometimes involved and complex with stories within stories not pertinent to plot focus. Granted red herrings are necessary in murder investigations, but with so many varied offbeat themes like this perhaps simplification would work better. I like the central characters but wish each were more developed. More humor, imagination, and substance would set this show apart from generic counterparts.

Scripts seem generic, bland, and predictable. Stories are the sticking point. Adding some real thrills and quicker pacing would keep the audience drawn in and involved. On a scale of from 1 to 10, I rate this as a 7. It could really be so much more if developed properly.

Here’s a clip from the movie.

Interesting review. I watched the video Pat, and I’m going to put this one on my Netflix list. Interesting how they termed it SciFi. So many shows are incorporating loads of scientific details into their story lines.
