I don’t like slick smart alecky kids so it isn’t any surprise that I do not appreciate television shows that play to this. I wonder how many moms and dads realize what messages their kids get from seeing parents upped by their own children. Where is the role modeling?
With this said, I just got a chance to review Disney Princess Enchanted Tales, Follow Your Dream. This DVD will be in local stores September 8, 2009. I loved watching every one of its 56 minutes. No wonder Disney terms this movies, magic, and more. Its stories about Aurora and Jasmine were thought provoking and provided examples and lessons for young girls. I can hardly wait to see future episodes featuring Cinderella and Mulan.
I’ll tell you a little bit about the princess stories and you decide for yourself.
Aurora is given the keys to the kingdom when the king and prince leave on a trip. Aurora is determined to be responsible. Even after her fairy godmother lends her a magic wand, Aurora is determined to stick with things and no magic. She slips when she should have persevered and learns there is no easy way out.
Aurora’s yielding to temptation has the Duke chasing wind blown paper, reacting to chickens, pigs, and cows, and babbling to the king, These scenes make for genuine moments of laughter. Her story is an enchanting lesson with amusement built into its life message: Hard work matters.
Jasmine wants to be more than a peacock princess. Her being underestimated frustrates her. She wants to do something important and challenging. She needs to prove herself to others and herself as well. Even with challenge, there are light moments. When Jasmine and takes the job of teacher and face a class, mayhem happens. Even her tiger is bested for the moment.
However, Aurora never gives up. When her father’s favorite horse Sahara is gone, she gives it her all and succeeds in bringing the horse back. She saves the day. She figures out that she is stronger than she ever realized.
Disney has put bonus features on this disk including a dress up game, a magic carpet search, and a sneak preview of a new music video. Wow! Yoou will be spending your time watching and rewatching this adventure fit for a princess.
