CD Review – Your Songs by Harry Connick, Jr.

harry connick jr your songs cd cover

Life is hectic around this house so I like my own private time in the car. It has AM, FM, Sirius, and a CD player so I get to choose my music luckily. Some think I have strange tastes because I like to understand the words and hear a melody. I suppose that comes from being a WWII baby. Oh, well!

Harry Connick Jr’s new album “Your Songs” is being released later this week, but I was lucky enough to receive a review copy to check  out beforehand as a member of the One2One Network. Today I popped “Your Songs” into the player. It brought me back to the age of swing. It was nice to hear real music coming from a piano, horns, etc. No phony synthesizer, drums, and guitar beating out noise…. Old timers are sure to remember the originals for Connick’s covers. It sure is good to hear these classic love songs and ballads again.

Take great songwriters like Sammy Cahn, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hammerstein, mix them with contemporaries like Billy Joel, the Beatles, and Elton John then pair them with a talented, versatile musician like Connick–you get “Your Songs”. My personal favorite was “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You”. Wonder which one will be yours….

Did you know that Harry’s has been interested in music since the age of 3 and played publicly for the first time at the age of 6? The New Orleans native has won numerous awards and recognition including several multi-platinum and gold albums, 25 million albums sold worldwide, Grammy, Tony and Emmy Awards; Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, and so much more. He’s also a humanitarian, teaming up teamed up with Branford Marsalis and the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity to create Musicians’ Village, a community in the Upper Ninth Ward.
