Book Review – Liking Myself by Pat Palmer

liking myself book cover Liking Myself by Pat Palmer The book cover has these messages on it: “I like me. I am somebody. I am happy to be me! ” Were it always true and easy! Liking Myself gives good advice to youngsters aged five to eleven who are in the process of learning and building self-confidence. This third to fourth grade level reading book uses simple words and accompanying sketches to make it personal and pertinent for young lives.                                                                                                                    Understanding what positive behavior is helps prevent dysfunctional behavior. The lesson this book teaches is that everyone has to be a good friend to himself/herself first. Other people are important, but everyone needs to believe he/she is lovable and valuable. This book recommends kids show how they feel since holding on to emotions only brings anger and more problems. Boys and girls needed to recognize it is OK to be different. Making mistakes and changing one’s mind are both normal parts of life. Body language tells a lot so everything doesn’t need a reason or an explanation.                                                                                                                                                 Youngsters can take solid advice from Liking Myself’s pages. Feeling depressed, upset, overwhelmed happens to everyone so it is a good thing to teach people how to get rid of negativity without aggression. Liking Myself is available for purchase online from Uplift Press and sells for $12.99.
