From international bestselling author Martina Cole comes a gritty, gripping, and utterly unforgettable new novel set in the heart of London’s criminal gangland.

Martina Cole’s novel Faces may be fiction but it reads like the detailed biography of a real criminal mind. Her Danny Cadogan evolves from a 13 year old rebel into the top Face whose ruthlessness earns him a criminal empire. Danny is complex, brutal, violent, and murderous. It’s his personality that sets the tone.

This is a long winding gangland saga about an abused boy rising out of poverty and taking it all. He comes to life as a tortured, disturbed soul who alienates everyone–parents, siblings, wife, children, friends, clients, and obviously enemies. He controls everything and everyone. Mary, his wife, hates him enough to want him dead. Michael, Mary’s brother, fears his partner enough to plot how to take him down.

Faces is true British and its vocabulary and colloquialisms prove it. It is well written although the chronicling of endless details, at times, slows it down. You will have to read Faces to find out the whole story about Danny Cadogan and his role in the London world from the 60′s into the present. Who will live? who will die? How does anyone escape?

    Tricia,

I prefer American gangsters even if they came from the Old Country.

    Jill,

Looks can be deceptive–I wonder if we would recognize the real ones nowadays.

    Janet,

Reading is still a matter of personal taste.  I always suggest that people read a little of the book in the store before buying.

This sounds like an interesting read. I love to pick up more of the terms the British use such as lift for elevator, etc. When I read a book I like to learn something extra along the way!

    Nancy,

I honestly prefer American stories except, perhaps, espionage.
